Seal Replacement Instructions
OPW 5400 Series carbon steel and 5900 Series
stainless
steel split flange swivels were developed specifically for ease of
maintenance and heavy load-bearing application. These heavy-duty
swivels are available in 2", 3", and 4" sizes with ANSI flanged or
welding ends. A stainless steel spring energized PTFE main seal is
standard in both the 4140 steel and 316L stainless steel units.
The
split flange design allows the main seal to be easily replaced
without removing the ball bearings and dismantling the swivel
joint. By simply unbolting and lifting the sealing flange, the main
seal is accessible for easy replacement.
Deep ball
grooves with wide spacing, along with heavy-duty construction,
provide the significantly greater load carrying capacity needed in
extended-reach loading arms and other high-load applications.
Costly booms and support structures can be eliminated by using OPW
split flange swivel joints.

SEAL REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OPW ENGINNERING SYSTEMS 5000 SERIES SWIVEL JOINTS
Step 1: Support outboard weight of swivel joint
with crane or lifting device while performing the following
steps.
(Note: It is recommended that the swivel be removed from the
supported loading arm prior to any seal maintenance.)
Step 2: Remove the 8 flange hex bolts and separate
the swivel joint at the split flange.
Step
3: Carefully remove the PTFE/Graphite spring energized
seal.
Step
4: Clean seal surfaces with solvent to remove any grit
that may be present.
Step
5: Insert NEW PTFE/Graphite spring energized seal into the
recess of swivel body. (Note:
Grease should NOT be used on the main seal when replacing.)
Step
6: Realign flanges and initialize threads on all 8 hex
bolts. Once all have been started, bolts should be torqued in a
crossing patern as follows:
2" Split Flange Swivel 22 ft./lbs.
3" Split Flange Swivel 22 ft./lbs.
4" Split Flange Swivel 44 ft./lbs.
